Social Work Services

Social work aims to enhance human well-being

“Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility, and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance well-being” (Global Definition of Social Work)

My approach to social work

I am passionate about my work and believe that the challenges people face are opportunities for meaning making and growth of individuals, families, and communities to function more purposefully. I believe strongly in advocating for people’s rights and dignity in a social context often fraught with inequalities and injustices and attempt to improve systems that impact on the quality of life of individuals.

My offerings as a social worker

In addition to offering counselling and life coaching I offer professional social work services in the health sector. My experience in working in the hospital setting (over 8 years) and my qualifications in palliative care (Diploma and Masters) provides me with a sound platform to assist patients and families to adapt to illness, cope with loss, and find meaning in their suffering. I offer social work-related services in the following areas:

  • I offer therapeutic counselling in various areas (refer to counselling services).

  • I assist with care planning and completion of home care and intermediate care facility applications, if you or a family member are frail, ill, or recovering from a stoke, operation, fracture or another health challenge that impacts on care needs.

  • I offer my services as a consultant, advising on/developing/reviewing programmes in the field of social work and palliative care.

  • I provide supervision to social workers and bereavement counsellors

Footprints on Sand

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity”
