Life Coaching

Coaching focuses on growth and goal attainment

Imagine a world in which you wake up and the dreams you thought weren't possible seem possible, the person you wanted to become you realize you can become, and the obstacles preventing you from feeling better than okay look like opportunities rather than adversities. While counselling tends to focus on the individual’s past and aims at healing emotional pain, coaching focuses on the client’s growth and goal attainment in an area in which the client chooses, whether personal or work related. Coaching will give you the opportunity to identify areas of your life that you want more balance in, set realistic goals, develop strategies for change and growth, find passion and purpose, increase your self-awareness and self-confidence, improve your communication skills, strengthen your relationships, re-frame your limiting beliefs and let go of old habits, adapting new more positive ones.

My approach to coaching

What makes my approach to coaching unique is that I am first and foremost a social worker with roots in psychology which gives me greater insight into human behaviour including what truly motivates people and also what holds people in their comfort zones which no longer serve them. I believe that in order to achieve true goals, emotional scars sometimes need to be addressed as well and because of my background and training I am able to provide you with a safe space to do this should this be needed. Areas in which I enjoy coaching include stress management, health and fitness, personal growth, self-confidence and self-esteem, purpose and passion, life/work balance, relationships, and general life stagnancy. I enjoy taking people from a place of despair or stagnancy to a place of meaning, purpose, and satisfaction. I want people to feel alive and look forward to living life abundantly.

How it works

In the first session we will establish a relationship and goals for the coaching process. My role as your coach will be as your thinking (and sometimes accountability) partner in your commitment to your own development path. I will ask you questions and give you exercises to provoke thought, increase self-awareness, and ensure you are on track with your goals. The coaching process is usually short term (1-12 sessions), however some people choose to incorporate a life coach into their lifestyle, as they do exercise. Typically, sessions are scheduled once a week or every two weeks to give time between sessions to complete activities provided by your coach and to allow information obtained in the coaching sessions to be processed and translated into action. The sessions are 60 minutes long and are conducted face-to-face in Cape Town or virtually via Skype or Zoom.

“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power”.
