Counselling
Counselling is a relationship in which you can heal and grow
Counselling is a professional activity whereby assistance and guidance in resolving personal or psychological problems is offered. The counsellor facilitates a process of discovery and growth whereby you find your own inner strengths and resources to overcome the challenges for which you seek counselling. Problems which are often experienced as overwhelming can be broken down into more manageable pieces and dealt with according to your unique needs and values. Counselling will provide you with the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with your counsellor. It is within this relationship that you can be deeply heard, be honest with yourself and another, become more aware, and be able to cope better with the challenges you face.
My approach to counselling
I aim to provide you with an opportunity to explore your personal issues in safety. I believe that all challenges people face are opportunities for meaning making and growth, and with a broad base of knowledge and skills, I can adapt interventions to your specific needs, as no one intervention suits everyone. Although my specialty is in grief, loss, and trauma counselling, I offer general counselling in other areas including relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, domestic violence, and substance abuse.
How it works
The length of the counselling process depends on your unique needs and goals for counselling. Some people embark on a lifetime of counselling while others choose to do a series of shorter counselling sessions (3-12 sessions) to address specific issues. Typically, sessions are scheduled once a week or every two weeks but can be scheduled more frequently if needed. The sessions are 60 minutes long and are conducted face-to-face in Cape Town or virtually via Skype or Zoom.
